My Baking Adventures

I’ve been a little slow in getting to this recipe, I saw it on the Ultimate Recipe Showdown, and on Cookie Madness. I’m glad I waited because it seems there was a typo in the amount of sugar called for in the recipe. The recipe only calls for 1/2 cup of bakers sugar and on the Food TV website, it lists 2 cups of baker sugar. Thanks to Anna, I had the correct measurement.

Although I woke up this morning with a sinus migraine, my head had cleared sufficiently by 10 a.m. to tackle the recipe. I didn’t need the mixer, which my headache was glad to hear, so I had these ready to go by 10:15. I opted to chill the formed cookies while I did some bill-paying, and then popped them into the oven and waited. After they cooled down enough for me not to burn my tongue on the chocolate, I tried one.

The verdict? Really, really (really!) sweet. I used semisweet chips instead of the milk chocolate chips that the recipe called for, simply because I find milk chocolate too cloying. It could have been the massive amount of vanilla extract called for in the recipe - 3 whole tablespoons. That’s a lot of vanilla. I don’t know, but I just tried another one that is now at room temperature and I still don’t care for them. Oh well - glad I tried it and I can’t wait to see what the kids think, they always notice right away if I’ve tried a new recipe for something like this.

Update: the kids loved them, and even David said they were really good. Hmm. Leads me to believe that it’s me, not the cookies. I’ll have to try one later today and re-evaluate my standing.

Update#2: Ok, I tried another one today - I still find them too sweet. Eh, I’ll take them to the school - those kids eat anything that doesn’t move!
