Wilton Fondant and Gumpaste Class #2
17 Aug
Sabrina and I had our second Fondant & Gumpaste class yesterday. This class was much more productive than last week. We got to decorate and use all the cool new toys tools that came in the class box. After debating the choice of colors, Sabrina chose pink fondant to cover the cake with. I must say, I was quite pleased with the perfectly smooth, ripple-free coverage we achieved with the fondant.
She used the imprint roller for the drape -
Then we played with the fondant punch, and the rollers to make borders. Contrary to the picture, our cake looked really good – but once we got into the car, the intense heat softened the fondant and it started to melt/droop.
We also started the base to the carnations. We are debating the final cake – Sabrina wants to combine different elements from each of the four cakes, but I am trying to get her to stick with one. Our instructor thinks we are crazy anyways – he says we don’t realize how much work all the those flowers will take.
Next week, we will spend the entire class on flowers.
And yes, our favorite classmate was there, blabbing on and on about what a waste of money the fondant was. Ms. Sanitary was wearing her gloves, but tossing her 1970′s era hair onto the table as she covered her carrot cake with store bought canned frosting (gasp!).
Yes, Ms. Sanitary, indeed.

Nice start and i am sure will have a beautiful finish !
