Hershey’s Kiss Cookies – 2 ways

17 Dec

Just for fun and excitement, because you know, that’s in short supply here……. I made cookies with Hershey’s kisses two different ways.

First Way:

Sabrina loves the look of the peanut blossom cookies, but for obvious reasons cannot have them. So after an exhaustive internet search (ok, really it was like 2 minutes) I found this chocolate recipe. They are great, but I have found that substituting sour cream for the milk helps the cookies keep their shape. Milk seems to make the dough too thin, and the sour cream also gives the cookie dough a nice tang from all the sweetness.

Chocolate Blossom Cookies

½ c. butter
2/3 c. sugar
1 egg
2 tbs. milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 c. flour
1/3 c. unsweetened cocoa powder

Extra granulated sugar, for rolling
Unwrapped Hershey’s Kisses – any variety

Beat butter and sugar together until smooth. Beat in egg, milk and vanilla. Stir together flour and cocoa powder, then stir into butter mixture.

Roll mixture into 1” balls, then roll in granulated sugar. Place on ungreased baking sheet, then press down lightly in center. Chill for 1 hour before baking.

Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes, or until just set. Remove from the oven, and place a Kiss in the center of each cookie. Remove cookies from sheet to wire rack to cool completely.

Second Way:

The next batch of kiss cookies I made came from the back of the Mint Kiss bag – it’s a shortbread type dough, and the kids go crazy over them. In fact, I think I’ll make these again for Alexander’s class party on Friday.

And just so show how scientific my planning was, I made a half batch of dough, and did half mint and half dark chocolate.

Magical Mint Kiss Cookies

1 stick butter, softened
1/3 c. sugar
½ tsp vanilla extract
1 c. all purpose flour
2 tbs. cocoa powder

unwrapped Hershey’s Mint Kisses

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Beat butter, sugar and vanilla in a large bowl until creamy. Stir together flour and cocoa, gradually add to butter mixture, beating until blended. Mold scant tablespoon dough around kiss, covering completely. Shape into balls, and place on ungreased baking sheet.

Bake 8-10 minutes or until set. Cool one minute, then remove cookies to wire rack. Roll in powdered sugar, if desired.

Enjoy!

Ooooh! I’m adding the first ones to my list! I really have to stop reading great blogs like yours, because my list is getting longer but my time is getting way shorter!

I wish I could even find mint kisses. They probably wouldn’t last long enough for cookies.

These are kind of like the ones that I made! Yours look so festive.
