TWD – French Peach Tart

6 Jan

And here we are, the first TWD recipe for the New Year. How exciting for us – that Dorie herself chose this recipe!

I wondered how, or if, it was difficult for her to decide on a particular recipe. Let’s face it, we all have our favorites – so how do you choose? Especially since she wrote the book.

Anyways, back to the tart. I started with 2 mini tart shells, and then encountered the following:

1-1-0081

Problem #1 – No one likes pears, but peaches were discovered during Operation Fridge/Freezer cleanout. Peaches will now make their way to the tart.

Problem #2 – No one can/will eat the almond filling, so they got tossed out of the game.

But for every problem, we have a solution, therefore:

Success #1 – Peaches were very tasty.

Solution #2 – After omitting almonds from filling, it was discovered that said filling was a bit runnier, but set up just fine.

I think this would be great during the summertime, with fresh fruit – the custard was surprisingly good, and next time I will just add a bit more flour/cornstarch to compensate for the missing nuts.

If you are interested in the recipe, you can go here to Dorie’s blog, where she is posting her tart today too!

I was surprised that the custard was so good too. I wasn’t so sure with the ground almonds. Your mini looks so cute!

Your mini is adorable. I can totally see this recipe with peaches. Or apples. Yum!

Good job modifying this to meet family preferences/requirements! This looks great with peaches — I definitely have to try it that way sometime!

Peaches! I will have to try this with peaches. I am not a big pear fan but the almond cream was so good I dipped canned pears in the unbaked cream. How embarrasing!

Peaches are a great idea, and I think apricots would work, too.

Looks awesome, Megan. I bet you’re right about it being great with fresh fruit, so maybe I will try it in the spring time. And if I’m not mistaken, you have a new look going on here. It looks great!

I love the peaches in this – very cheerful on a dreary winter day (here, anyway). And I’m glad to know you can omit the almonds in the almond cream (although I LOVED it as is, I have some nut-avoiders in the family, so now I can make this for them too). Nice work!
