Peach Cobbler

A very happy Sunday to you! It’s a beautiful morning here in Vegas – the sun is shining, the air is a bit cool, and the high temperature today is going to be about 86 – a perfect day for going on a bike ride with the kids.

But first, let’s talk about Peach Cobbler - Sweet Melissa’s Peach Cobbler, to be exact, picked by Andrea from Nummy Kitchen. Not only does Andrea have a great blog, she’s a really nice person, AND she always has terrific pictures on her site!

Anyways, I was looking forward to this recipe for Peach Cobbler because my parents really enjoy fruit -based desserts – and conveniently, my mother always has jars of assorted fruits in her pantry. So I swiped borrowed a jar of peaches, and got to work.

I mixed up the peaches with a bit of cornstarch, and only a few tablespoons of sugar instead of the full amount specified in the recipe  – because I didn’t want the end result to be tooth-achingly sweet -

I used brown sugar instead of white for the cobbler crust, and Sabrina and I formed the biscuits by hand instead of rolling them out -

It looked nice, smelled good – but the unanimous verdict was that both of my parents prefer “crisps” instead of “cobblers”.

But don’t let my disappointment with the recipe dissuade you – I’m sure the other SMS bakers enjoyed it more than I did.

Coming up next week: Actually, as of right now, we don’t know what next weeks’ recipe is – so be sure to come back next Sunday!

  1. Hmm, crisps vs. cobblers is a tricky proposition. It seems that many people fall firmly into one camp or another. I’m in the cobbler camp so this recipe was a hit for me. But, if you’re like many people I know and the whole “doughy” thing doesn’t do it for you then I get it. My mom won’t touch anything that vaguely resembles a dumpling so she wouldn’t have liked this either. I think that it looks delicious and I love that you and your daughter formed the biscuits by hand!

  2. I like crisps better than cobblers too but I’m from the northeast and there aren’t many cobblers around here so it was a nice change. Love the color on your peaches & brown sugar is a good idea (writing that one down)

  3. It did end up being a bit on the sweet side, but I didn’t mind it. Sorry it wasn’t a huge hit. I like the idea of brown sugar, too.

  4. Megan, thank you for baking along with me and for the sweet compliments! Sorry that this wasn’t a hit for you guys, I think it looks amazing with those huge crumbly hand-formed biscuits :) I love just about all fruit desserts and crisps and cobblers are both at the top of my favorites list. It’s always so fun to hear if people are from the cobbler or crisp camp or the no fruit desserts what-so-ever camp.

  5. I normally like crisps, too… however, I think since my biscuits were so small, I overlooked it! ;) Sorry it wasn’t fabulous for you!

  6. I like crisps better than cobblers, as well. It still looks good though. My husband told me peach cobbler is one of his favorite desserts. I’ll have to give this one a try.

  7. Either a crisp or a cobbler is fine with me. I’ll have to give this one a try since it sounds delicious.

  8. Great looking cobbler. I really like crisps too. This one was good but so sweet for me. I have to reduce the sugar next time.

  9. Looks yummy! I like swapping out white sugar with brown as it gives that lovely caramel flavor. It was so sweet of you to make this for your parents!

  10. Looks yummy! It was a winner at my house.

  11. i never had a crisp! i used less sugar too.

    Yours looks great!

  12. I like the topping you and your daughter made! Sorry it wasn’t a hit for your parents. I generally am more inclined towards crisps too, but I thought this was really good cobbler.

  13. Beautiful pictures! I am sorry your parents were not as happy with the cobbler as everyone would have been with the crisp but I bet everyone enjoyed the fruit base =).

  14. Cobblers are such a great way to use in season fruit! (I’ve missed commenting on your blog for a bit so it’s so good to have some time and catch up with all your cooking/baking! :) )

  15. i really enjoyed this recipe… but i love a crisp more too ;)

  16. I’m a crisp fan as well, but will really consume any fruity dessert (as long as it has vanilla ice cream, too!).

Next time I’ll have to try the brown sugar swap, that sounds really good.

  17. Can you believe I’ve only tried a cobbler once? It was Dorie’s cobbler and I LOVED it and have been dying to make it again! That peach cobbler looks so good!

  18. Did you serve it with ice cream? Cause if it didn’t have ice cream, then it was not a proper cobbler. Vanilla frozen yogurt works well too, and helps keep it healthier.

  19. Nice looking cobbler, did your mom put up the peaches? I used frozen, just lazy, LOL.

  20. I have a recipe for a peach cobbler with a crisp topping, so it’s the best of both fruit-dessert worlds! I think if I make this one again, I’ll definitely cut back on the sugar.

  21. Hi Megan!

Your cobbler looks delicious, but I’m sorry it didn’t live up to expectations in the taste department. Do you have any great crisp recipes that outshine this version of the dessert?

I wanted to introduce myself- my name is Joy and I’m a brand new blogger and SMS baker. I’d love for you to check out my site, and I look forward to getting to know you better during future weekly posts!

P.S.- I LOVE your “Learn To Do” list- what a fabulous idea, and it must be so satisfying to cross off completed projects. I do have a trademark challah bread recipe that I’d be happy to share if you’re interested. Just let me know when you’re ready to tackle it!

  22. Maybe you can add your peach cobbler to some ice cream!! I bet that would be really good: )

  23. Sorry this wasn’t a big hit, I didn’t even know there was a difference between crisp and cobbler, i think I would prefer the cobbler (if that means biscuits because I love those).

  24. Looks great, even if it wasn’t a favorite!
